Nice wheels... What's wrong with this picture?
That cable lock (around the seat post) is getting SNIPPED and that bike is a recent memory... Flashy wheels require flashier locks. Step your security up.

Headed to Prime Burger tonight with my vegetarian friend Lucid (seriously). The style and manner of this restaurant appear so welcoming, I wish I'd known of it when I lived on E 54th.
After 74 years in business, they will shut their doors Sunday.
Keep you posted.

PULSE, NYC
Sunday, equipt with a press pass via Noah & Nick, Tori and I walked up to W 18th to peep Pulse. It was a good size show, just enough that I felt accomplished after, but not taxing enough to feel Armory whupped.
Of the artists I discovered, Simon Schubert was my favorite. Check out his site and see his stuff sometime.

BIG KRIT
I met w/ KRIT and Shipes early on and couldn't believe the records they played me. They signed w/ the homie SHA and I fully support the movement.
KRIT has only grown since those days and this video and track are a perfect example. Go to a show, buy a tee shirt and cop the vinyl when it drops. ENJOY!

Roberto Burle Marx
One half of my parental comity just returned from 10 days in Rio de Janeiro. Catching up with my Mom, she told me about an adventure they made, out of the city center, to one of Roberto Marx homes. Pleasantly, after a walk of the estate, they found the grounds still sprinkled with the pixie dust of Mr Marx' imagination.

QUEENS MUSEUM
NOTE: Take a deep breath....
You know when you find something you really like online and at the exhaustion of your computer you keep the tab open all week because you can't shut down your computer because that will close the tab and the inspiration from the story or photo or video or whatever will close along with it?
Right. Same here.
So, Monday, that happened to me with the below image, captured in Williamsburg, BK, in 1959, by Frank Oscar Larson. The Queens Museum is showing this image and 59 others from Feb 5th - May something-th. Go check it out.
Post Script:I'm closing the tab and restarting my comp. DOK, sounds like a bike ride and a good excuse to hit Flushing for lunch!

THE FAT BOYS x SWATCH
Spiked by the decline of music videos on TV over the past 10 years, musician brand alignment has grown steadily and become more popular than ever. That said, it's nothing new.
THE FAT BOYS manager, Charlie Stettler, is Swiss and brokered an early deal with Swatch. The commercials were all over MTV at a time when Hip Hop was not programmed on the music channel.
There's always a way... PROPS.

BREAST O'2011
A few years back, I began putting together my annual "Best of" list together. It seemed people were always complaining about how bad music was and I felt the total opposite and actually, quite overwhelmed by the volume of great tunes out there. My boy Noah jumped in the following year and it's become much more fun and a little competitive as we're both looking to sift a little gold to share with the other.
So, here's to a dense and super creative 2011 year. The Strokes made one of their best singles and worst albums. Toro y Moi brought the funk. Frank Ocean wrote some great lyrics. Cut Copy threw-back to the 80's. Rick Ross made an amazing album with a discarded and overlooked cast of characters. The Beasties found their sense of humor. J Mascis went beautifully acoustic. Bad Meets Evil returned, over a decade later, more chiseled. WU LYF took most of my weeknd attention (HAHA). The Knux displayed the strength of the Yin and the Yang. Danny Brown and Meek Mills became 'mah doods'. El-P realized he liked the new underground and joined in. A$AP Rocky took the rock from Max B. And, M83 made my favorite song of the year.
2011 is also the year Spotify launched successfully in the US. This has changed the way I listen to music. iTunes is now only used to support what is not offered on Spotify.
I have been a premium Spotify member since August '11, so I will be using their interface for THIS YEARS LIST. There are a few songs that aren't in their library, so the Spotify link will be accompanied with a SENDSPACE LINK. I hope you enjoy this year's top jams and don't forget to license a song, go see a show, buy a T Shirt and support an artist.
Thank you to all involved, 2012 has a lot to live up to.

Raleigh Denim
HOMETOWN LOVE! I was in Raleigh a couple weeks ago and stopped by Raleigh Denim. They have a cool storefront on W Morgan, around the corner from the Contemporary Art Museum. Yes, "cool store front" around the corner from whaaaa? What city is this? Downtown Raleigh has developed in the 15 yrs I've been in NYC.
The store is on the street with the manufacturing and offices through a nonthreatening curtain. The employee's are really warm and encourage you to take a walk in to check their operation. It was great to see such a cool space being put to such use. Tori has a long history in the denim business and says RD are sold in Barneys and taste maker boutiques. I was pleased to be impressed by a local business.
Buy some Raleigh Denim!

Black Velvet
Memoriiiiiees...
My boy Ill Will had one of these when we were kids. I've been having a lot of skate dreams lately. My office is about a 15 min walk from la casa Parker, so I've been thinking about getting a little set up to push around. How do I even obtain a skateboard in 2011? There's no chance in France I'm paying much...

Last Thurs, Todd invited me to preview he and Steve Powers "Street Market" show in downtown BKLYN before it's opening on 9/19. It is fantastic. HEROS
"I can’t wait for the day when I see pigeons chasing children."
Growing up, I was surrounded by some real characters that I'm thankful for and still inspired by today - Natas, Lance Mountain, Flea, Flava Flav, and so on.
The Gonz was and remains a big inspiration and a genuinely "on one" kinda guy. I came across an article from OYSTERMAG recently and thought you'd dig it.
ENJOY!
Post Script: After the article, watch the Coconut Records video, Dir by Gonzales, for a taste of his personality.

Music Sales and General IP theft
As far as Intellectual Property is concerned, I have been an avid supporter my entire life (as most of us have). I am a BIG fan of Spotify , I've enjoyed buying MP3 albums from iTunes and Amazon for the past 8 or so years, and before that, I bought thousands of CD's, tapes and vinyl - and that's just the music. When I saw a chance to email my Senator, Chuck Schumer, regarding IP theft, I quickly composed and sended'd.
I wanted to share the letter I received in return...
HELL YUP
I wanted to share the letter I received in return...
Dear Mr. Parker:
Thank you for your letter regarding S.968, the PROTECT IP Act. I share your concerns about intellectual property theft and have continued to fight for legislation that protects American workers and companies from counterfeiters, which is why I am an original co-sponsor of S.968, the PROTECT IP Act in the 112th Congress.
The threat to intellectual property owners is clear. Every year, the US Chamber of Commerce estimates that copyright theft costs our nation about $58 billion in lost output, 373,375 in lost jobs, and $16 billion in lost employee earnings. These numbers present an unacceptable burden to US businesses. In addition, companies are less likely to innovate because their products may be stolen by intellectual property pirates. These real and perceived fears are an enormous drag on the US economy.
As you may know, PROTECT IP Act provides law enforcement and intellectual property holders additional tools to protect American intellectual property from websites. The PROTECT IP Act would allow the Department of Justice to seek a court order against the domain name of the site providing the illegal goods. If the site is not registered by a US company, the DOJ could approach various third parties, such as payment processors, to prevent funds and visitors from reaching the offending websites selling counterfeit and other goods which violate intellectual property rights. The PROTECT IP Act currently is awaiting action on the floor of the Senate, and I eagerly await its passage.
Thank you for contacting me on this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can ever be of assistance to you on this, or any other matter.
Sincerely,
Charles E. Schumer
United States Senator
Working for Paul and Eminem at Shady records, I have learned a lot about music theft and computer hacking. The language regarding domain names outside of the country is particularly important as many music thieves are from outside our borders. It's reassuring to see level headed leaders tackling such an amorphic issue. Thanks Chuck!
